As AMD and Intel continue their struggle for processor supremacy, industry leader Intel has added some more ammunition to their cause.

This month, Intel is planning on upgrading chips from the Pentium 4/Xeon line to include 64-bit processing ability. Intel's announcement comes 18 months after AMD introduced 64-bit processing to their Opteron chipset.

According to InformationWeek.com, "Intel expects to have shipped a total of 2 million 64-bit-enabled Xeons by the end of February, and by end of the first quarter, 80% of all Xeons shipped will have 64-bit capability."
