Weekend problems caused by a poorly tested update file created havoc for thousands of users.

The company will pay for the repair of Japanese PCs damaged by its faulty antivirus file.

Compensation for business losses has not been offered. Also, plans for repaying customers outside of Japan remain unknown, if any.

The Tokyo-based company has apologized for the problem, which affected PCs running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 deployed and Trend Micro OfficeScan or VirusBuster in place.

As of Monday the company had incurred costs of over $3 million USD related to the faulty file.
